October Referee of the Month

Congratulations to Mike Vieira! A well earned award!

Little behind in posting our Referee of the Month. For

October it is the one and only Mr. Mike Vieira!

What can be said about this individual? Firstly, he is a league first man. Always does what he can to support the GTBHL. Never complains and always gives great feedback. He is a likable man by the staff and players and we are so lucky to have him on our staff.

Mike began officiating at the age of 18. He says, 'only ball hockey. I can't skate!'. Started in a small league called Play Safe Sports in Stouffville. He would ride the train. At first it was timekeeping then transitioned into reffing. The league was sold to the YCBHL and continued his long career there.

He says he likes to ref because he has a passion for the game and enjoys the relationships he has made with the players and league staff.

Mike played youth ball hockey and concluded his career playing juniors with the Young Canadians out of Keelesdale arena. He also played 25 years in the infamous Tony Miniaci's outdoor league.

Congratulations Mike and thanks for all you do!
